Cheney's shooting victim was released from the hospital today. Somebody better not tell VP Cheney - he might have to go hunt somebody else down and shoot them. Of course, that's not what I believe. Apparently the MSM wants us to believe Cheney is a cold-blooded killer. It was just an unfortunate hunting accident and the media is taking advantage of it to draw attention away from Al Gore's big mouth.

It's good that President Bush has proposed some cuts but the $18 Billion more to Hurricane relief (for a total of $100 Billion) is completely excessive. I'm not sure what the right amount is but I am sure that the private sector would do a better job than the government. Immediate needs of water, ice, food and temporary housing have been met by the feds and now it's time for private companies and state and local governments to do the rebuilding work.

Here's an imagined speech from Mayor John Smith of Whiteville.

"Smith promised that Whiteville will be a 'vanilla' city again. 'This
city will be a majority European-American city. It's the way God wants it

also said: 'Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane
after hurricane, and it's destroyed and put stress on this country.'"

Could he get away with this? Such horrible grammer, such raving race-mongering? But Mayor Ray Nagin did. Just substitute Nagin for Smith, New Orleans for Whiteville, African-American for European-American, and oh, yeah; chocolate for vanilla and you'd have this speech made yesterday by Nagin. How did this doofus ever get elected?

The Democrats are just trying to delay the Confirmation without actually using a filibuster so the Conservatives can't use the nuclear option. Everybody can see that this is just gearin' up for what they're planning to do. It should be obvious this is just a waste of our time.

Major terror plot against US ignored by US media

The mainstream U.S. media outlets have failed to report a major terrorist plot
against the U.S. - because it would tend to support President Bush's use of NSA
domestic surveillance, according to media watchdog groups.
News of a planned
attack masterminded by three Algerians operating out of Italy was widely
reported outside the U.S., but went virtually unreported in the American
media.
Italian authorities recently announced that they had used wiretaps to
uncover the conspiracy to conduct a series of major attacks inside the
U.S.
Italian Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu said the planned attacks would
have targeted stadiums, ships and railway stations, and the terrorists' goal, he
said, was to exceed the devastation caused by 9/11.

The media would be glad to report on the potential bad things that would happen from wiretapping, but they completely ignored a major terrorist plot getting stopped by wiretapping. No, the media's not biased at all, are they?

The confirmation hearings

The confirmation hearings started today with opening statements by the Senators. What do you think about it? I think it's just a bunch of old people blabbering on worthlessly.
Just my opinion from a young person's perspective.
To some people this might seem interesting, but I think to most people it will seem like what I said.
During the last hearings, it seemed like they were just making a speech, instead of asking a question. I think this will be, too.

Torture

There has been a lot of worthless bloviating in Liberal circles about so-called "torture" at Club Gitmo, (ooooh....) secret CIA prisons, etc. Let me start by saying I'm against torture. Real torture. As in cutting people's fingers off, ripping off their fingernails, ripping off their skin etc. But I just can't accept that loud rap music, pouring water over someone's face(OH MY GOSH! With a hood on???) calling them a "queer", and calling their sisters and mothers "sluts", is really torture.
In fact, this hypervintilating, incredibly solemn "investigative" article by ABC News, is just laughable. It's so laughable, I am posted it just as it appeared.
Here are the techniqes their "secret sources" described. (Bold theirs, italics mine.)

1. The Attention Grab: The interrogator forcefully grabs the shirt front of the prisoner and shakes him.(My little brother Jonathan does this to me every day...)

2. Attention Slap: An open-handed slap aimed at causing pain and triggering fear.(And Rebekah does this...)

3. The Belly Slap: A hard open-handed slap to the stomach. The aim is to cause pain, but not internal injury. Doctors consulted advised against using a punch, which could cause lasting internal damage.(Yeah, and a suicide bombing might cause lasting internal damage, too, but that's just my opinion.)

4. Long Time Standing: This technique is described as among the most effective. Prisoners are forced to stand, handcuffed and with their feet shackled to an eye bolt in the floor for more than 40 hours. Exhaustion and sleep deprivation are effective in yielding confessions. (Haven't they ever been to the Post Office?)

5. The Cold Cell: The prisoner is left to stand naked in a cell kept near 50 degrees. Throughout the time in the cell the prisoner is doused with cold water.(Gosh, Doctors have been using this for years. Now the real question is do they use the "little red rubber hammer" torture technique?)

6. Water Boarding: The prisoner is bound to an inclined board, feet raised and head slightly below the feet. Cellophane is wrapped over the prisoner's face and water is poured over him. Unavoidably, the gag reflex kicks in and a terrifying fear of drowning leads to almost instant pleas to bring the treatment to a halt.
(Momeeeee! They're having a breath holding contest! It's torture!)
